About the Department of Physical Education

The Department of Physical Education was established in 1987. The department of Physical Education of this college has a glorious past under the able leadership of Dr.N.Vijayaregunathan’s. Despite the fact that the institution has fewer court facilities due to a lack of land, it has a full-fledged Physical Education Department. 

 

Syllabus PSOs Faculty Activities

The department’s main goal is to provide physical education programmes and activities to all college inmates, both staff and students. Talent identification will be done and promised athletes & players will be given special training programmes in preparation for participation in Bharathidasan University, Inter-collegiate Competitions.

Inter-class competitions will be held for both men and women like a sports carnival.

To promote healthy living among the students and society, as well as to promote sportsmanship, co-operation and self-discipline.

    1. To aid in the healthy development of rural students in need of fertile ground.
    2. Give knowledge, physical skills, a balanced mental attitude, and the art of living to young minds in order to strengthen the foundation of their future lives.

OBJECTIVES:

Ph.D. Physical Education is a research-based doctorate program that focuses on advanced physical education themes such as Biomechanics, Sports Nutrition, Management in Physical Education, Technology in Physical Education, etc. The minimum duration of the course is 3 years, but it can be extended to 5 years.

To be eligible for a PhD. in Physical Education, a candidate must complete a Master’s degree in Physical Education with a minimum of 55% overall grade point average and pass the Bharathidasan University entrance test (NET/SLET candidates are exempt).

MILESTONES – DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION

  • The Department of Physical Education was established in 1987.
  • The Diploma of Yoga was begun during June 2006.
  • Sanctioned a GYM center under the UGC XI plan scheme during January 2012.
  • The Department of Physical Education received Ph.D., Research Centre recognition in November 2011. So far, 13 candidates have received Ph.D., degrees, with another 12 in the process of doing so.
  • Organised a National Conference on “Modern Perspectives of Sports Science and Yoga for the Enhancement of Sports Performance” on 3rd March, 2018. More than 100 students and faculties participated and presented their research work from different corners of India.
  • Signed a MOU with Octagon Foundation during September 2022.
  • Hosted the Bharathidasan University, Inter-Collegiate Tournament when and where the game was allotted.
  • Annual sports meet is a colorful programs of the campus with various individual and interdepartmental competitions organized every year since its inception.
